Belmont Abbey junior forward Shayla Jackson scored a career-high
28 points as the Crusaders women's basketball team outscored Queens
44-29 in the second half after trailing 34-32 at halftime to earn a
76-63 win over the Royals this evening at the Grady Cole Center.
Belmont Abbey improves to 12-8 overall and 10-5 in Conference
Carolinas, while the Royals fall to 10-10 overall and 9-6 in
Conference Carolinas.
Jackson scored 28 points on 12-20 shooting from the field and
sank all four of her free throw attempts. She also had six
rebounds, four steals, an assist and a blocked shot in all 40
minutes. Senior guard Courtney Naquin added 12 points, while Kelsey
Daniel and Asha Hardaway both finished with ten points apiece.
Queens was led by Marissa Hudley's 17 points, while Ashley
McGuirt finished with 15. Shakaria Hamlin and Dyonna Battle both
contributed ten points.
The Royals led 34-32 at the half behind a blistering 61 percent
shooting effort, while the Abbey shot 40 percent. The second half
saw the Abbey shoot well from the field, accumulating a 56 percent
success rate, while Queens shot just 28 percent. Belmont Abbey
finished with a 49 percent effort and Queens totaled a 43 percent
output. The Abbey won the rebounding edge 26-23.
