The Belmont Abbey volleyball team received 14 kills from Emily
Frohnapfel and 12 from Leanne Cassandra as the Crusaders snapped a
four-match losing streak with a thrilling 3-2 win over Queens
University of Charlotte this evening. Set scores were 25-12, 22-25,
25-14, 21-25 and 15-13. The Crusaders improve to 5-9 overall and
4-3 in Conference Carolinas, while the Royals slip to 3-13 overall
and 3-6 in Conference Carolinas.
Belmont Abbey hit .113 for the match as Frohnapfel hit .481,
posting 14 kills with just one error on 27 total attacks, while
Cassandra registered 12 kills on 25 total attacks. Senior Sydney
Steffen added nine kills, while Bria James added eight. Rebekah
Weber handed out 28 assists to go along with four kills, while
Molly Gwaltney added 17 assists and nine digs. Megan Watts had four
service aces.
Defensively, the Abbey registered 11 total blocks as Cassandra
had four block assists and two block solos, while Steffen added
three block assists and a pair of block solos. James led all
players with 22 digs, while Carrie Markham added 19.
Queens was led by Kaitlin McKenzie's 11 kills, while Brittany
Harvey and Veronica Areander both finished with ten. Amanda Valbert
handed out 33 assists and 15 digs. Defensively, the Royals were led
by Valbert's 15 digs, while McKenzie logged 14. Alyssa Pariselli
finished with 13 and Katherine Bagley had ten.
