Kenney Tabbed as Murphy-Osborne Finalist

HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Women's Volleyball player Sarah Kenney has been selected as a finalist for the 2018-19 Murphy Osborne Award, the Conference Carolinas office announced today. The highest academic award presented by the league, finalists are nominated by their institutions based on academic, athletic, leadership, service, and community involvement excellence during the year, and the award is bestowed upon the student-athlete determined to have the most outstanding accomplishments.

To be eligible for the award, nominees must be a senior student-athlete with a minimum grade point average of 3.25. The candidate must have been a full-time student at the member school for at least two years, and must be a starter or important substitute in a conference sport. The 2018-19 Murphy Osborne Scholar-Athlete Award winner, selected from these finalists by the conference Faculty Athletic Representatives, will be announced on Friday.
 
Kenney, a native of Mebane, N.C. and December graduate of The Abbey, was named as the conference's Fall Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women's volleyball in November. She was a first-team all-conference honoree and captured the league's Elite 23 Award with a 3.912 grade-point average in business management. Kenney led the league in overall digs (560) while ranking third in digs per set (4.67).
 

The other finalists are as follows: Vanessa Sanoja of Barton, Sarah Russell of Converse, Jack Fitzpatrick of Emmanuel, Rachel Berkey of Erskine, Lennard Neumann of King, Alexis Feely of Lees-McRae, Alyssa Voccia of Limestone, Shona Blades of Mount Olive, Sky Dupree of North Greenville, and Helen Schweiger of Southern Wesleyan.
