WILSON, N.C. -- Cassidy Bonito posted her second triple-double of the season with 45 assists, 10 kills and 15 digs and Mackenzie Chrapliwy added her 13th double-double of the year to lead Belmont Abbey to a 3-1 (25-17, 25-17, 24-26, 25-23) victory over North Greenville Saturday evening the semifinals of the 2017 Conference Carolinas Volleyball Championship.
The Abbey (17-11) will face either top-seed and defending champion Barton in the final Sunday afternoon at 3.
Chrapliwy finished with 17 kills and 21 digs, while Brianna Morgheim added 12 kills.
Belmont Abbey led 8-7 in the opening set when it took three straight points for an 11-7 lead. North Greenville rallied for a 15-14 lead, but BAC ran off three in a row to start a 5-1 run. The Abbey led 22-15 when North Greenville scored back-to-back points, but Belmont Abbey closed out the set with a 3-0 spurt.
In the second, Belmont Abbey extended an 11-10 lead to 13-10 with two straight points, then added to the lead for a 16-12 margin. NGU answered to tie the score at 16, but The Abbey ran off eight straight points on Leah Gunter's serve en route to the 25-17 victory.
The third set started with a 3-1 advantage to North Greenville, but Belmont Abbey surged ahead 6-3. At 9-5, NGU scored three straight to start a 5-1 run that evened the set at 10. After a BAC point, North Greenville continued its surge, scoring three straight and six of the next seven for a 16-12 lead. The teams traded runs - 2-0 and 3-0 for Belmont Abbey sandwiched around three straight for North Greenville. NGU led 23-20 before Belmont Abbey tied the score at 24, but back-to-back errors gave NGU the third set.
Belmont Abbey would not be denied, scoring the first five points of the fourth. North Greenville chipped away, taking a 16-15 lead. The teams traded points until NGU led 23-22, but Belmont Abbey ended the match with the final three points. Bonito's 10th kill -- against no errors -- was the clincher.
The championship appearance is the first for Belmont Abbey since 2013.
