Volleyball Opens Conference Play with 3-1 Win at Erskine

DUE WEST, S.C. -- Mackenzie Chrapliwy tallied a double-double of 10 kills and 10 digs and Lexi Henriott posted a team-high 15 kills, leading Belmont Abbey to a 3-1 (20-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25- victory over Erskine in women's volleyball action Friday night. The match was the conference opener for the Crusaders, who improve to 5-3 overall. Erskine falls to 1-7, 0-2.

Henriott hit .407 for the match, registering just four errors in 27 chances, while Chrapliwy had just three errors in the same number of attempts. Cassidy Bonito was credited with 19 assists, while Logan added a 16.

In the opening set, Belmont Abbey opened with a 4-2 advantage but was later tied at 6. The Flying Fleet scored six straight points to create some space and held on for a 25-20 win.

The Crusaders immediately responded, opening a 10-2 lead to start the second set. Erskine rallied with three straight points, but four in a row by The Abbey made the score 14-5. The Flying Fleet surged to cut the gap to 16-13, but a 9-2 run evened the match at 1-1.

The third set was virtually even to the halfway point as Erskine broke a 12-12 tie with a kill. But the Crusaders rattled off four straight points for a 16-13 lead. Later, the Flying Fleet reversed a 22-20 deficit with three straight points, but BAC tallied three of its own for a 25-22 victory.

Belmont Abbey trailed 15-13 in the fourth when it made its match-winning surge. Four straight points put the Crusaders up for good, 17-15, although Erskine closed to 20-19 later in the set. But a service error and three straight points on Madison Donnelly's serve set up Lydia Sale for the final kill.

Belmont Abbey continues its road trip tomorrow afternoon when it visits Emmanuel for a 2 p.m. matchup.
