AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Mackenzie Chrapliwy had 12 kills and Brianna Morgheim and Lexi Henriott also reached double figures, but it was not enough as Belmont Abbey dropped a 3-1 (25-20, 16-25, 25-19, 25-16) decision at Augusta Tuesday night.
Morgeheim tallied 11 kills and a .269 hitting percentage, while Henriott added 10 kills. Chrapliwy added a team-best 14 kills.
Augusta (3-2) pulled away in the first set by using an 8-3 run to turn a 15-14 lead into 23-17. the Crusaders (2-2) responded in the second set with a 7-2 spurt that reversed a 4-3 deficit. The Jaguars closed to 17-12, but The Abbey scored four of the next five points en route to the win.
The third set was close at 15-14 in favor of Augusta when the Jaguars scored eight of nine for a 23-15 lead. The final set went to the hosts after they opened an 11-4 lead and never looked back.
Belmont Abbey returns to action on Friday with two matches at the Francis Marion Invitational.
