SALISBURY, N.C. -- Coreen Norwood hit .324 with 12 kills and Mackenzie Chrapliwy tallied a team-best 14 kills, leading Belmont Abbey to a 3-1 (31-33, 25-18, 25-21, 26-24) women's volleyball victory over Chowan Friday afternoon at the Chowan Tournament. The matchup was the season opener for both teams.
Cassidy Bonito registered a career-high 45 assists, while Sarah Kenney led four Crusaders in double-figure digs with 22. Chrapliwy, Bonito and Morgheim each tallied 10 digs. As a team, the Crusaders totalled 11 blocks, led by Norwood with six and Lexi Henriott and Laney Heatley with five each.
After dropping the first set in extra points, 33-31, the Crusaders broke out in games two and three for a 2-1 lead. They trailed throughout much of the fourth, but rallied to take the match.
Tournament action concludes tomorrow with matches against host Catawba and Montevallo.
