Women's Volleyball Wraps Up Home Slate This Weekend

BELMONT, N.C. -- The Belmont Abbey wraps up the home portion of the 2016 regular-season schedule this weekend with three key matches in two days at the Wheeler Center.

The Crusaders, 13-9 overall and 9-2 in Conference Carolinas play, are one-half game behind Barton for first place in the North Division title race. Just behind in third is Friday's opponent, King, a team that the Crusaders lost to 3-0 on the road in the conference opener. Since then, The Abbey has won 12 of 13 matches, including eight straight at one point.

Before the match, five seniors -- Maria Hoidas, Aimee Cloninger, Dani Fortunato, Tabitha Smith and Gabby Martinez -- will be honored for their contributions to the program over the last few years. Martinez became the school's all-time assist leader during Belmont Abbey's 3-0 win over UNC Pembroke on Tuesday. Start time for the match is 7 p.m.

The Crusaders will host a tri-match on Saturday, beginning at 2 p.m. The opener features the hosts against conference rival Lees-McRae, who will be looking to avenge an early season loss in Hickory. The Bobcats will face Augusta at 4 p.m. with the Crusaders and Jaguars wrapping up the day with a 6 p.m. contest.
