BELMONT, N.C. -- The Belmont Abbey women's volleyball team brings a three-game winning streak into the Wheeler Center this weekend when it hosts a pair of big Conference Carolinas matches. The Crusaders host Barton at 7 p.m. on Friday and Mount Olive at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The Abbey has won three straight matches and stands 3-1 in league play, just one game back of first-place King. Included in the run is a thrilling 3-2 decision over Lees-McRae on Wednesday night in Banner Elk. Coreen Norwood led the Crusaders with 14 kills and a .357 hitting percentage.
For the season, Mackenzie Chrapliwy has paced the offense with 118 kills, while Aimee Cloninger ranked second with 92. Gabby Martinez has spearheaded the offense with 320 assist (7.27 per set), while Sarah Kenney controls the defense with a Conference Carolinas-best 215 digs (4.89 per set).
Barton has won five straight following 3-0 sweeps of both Erskine and Emmanuel last weekend. The Bulldogs (5-6, 2-0) are led by Haley Marshburn with 165 kills and 121 digs and Angelica Acevedo with 443 assists and 20 aces.
Mount Olive stands 6-5, 1-1 entering a Friday match at Pfeiffer. The Trojans defeated Fayetteville State 3-2 in mid-week, non-conference action. Britni Johnson and Mi'Kayla Benson have been at the top of the kills chart all season, while Kamber Skeen is UMO's assist leader.
