The Belmont Abbey women's volleyball team lost in four sets at Southern Wesleyan this evening, as the Warriors won the final two sets after the Crusaders knotted the match at one after a 25-22 victory in the second frame. Scores were 25-19, 22-25, 26-24 and 25-14. Southern Wesleyan improves to 17-6 overall and 12-2 in Conference Carolinas, while the Abbey slips to 14-10 overall and 8-5 in league play.
Belmont Abbey hit .227 as senior Hannah Schellenberg led the way with 21 kills as she hit .288. Aimee Cloninger added a career-high 18. Coreen Norwood chipped in with eight, registering a .462 attack. Gabby Martinez handed out 51 assists. Sarah Kenney added two with Cloninger handing out one. Schellenberg added two service aces.
Defensively, Schellenberg and Kenney tied for the match high with 16 digs. Martinez added 12 as the Crusaders totaled 59 on the evening.
The Crusaders dominated at the net, recording 10 total blocks as Norwood totaled four block assists. Cloninger added three and Dani Fortunato finished with two.
Belmont Abbey is back in action twice tomorrow, taking on North Greenville at 1:00 p.m. and Bluefield State at 3:00 p.m.
