The Belmont Abbey women's volleyball team hit .312 and held Mount Olive to a .069 output as the Crusaders gained a season sweep of the Trojans with an easy 3-0 road victory this afternoon at Kornegay Arena. Scores were 25-20, 25-19 and 25-15.
Belmont Abbey improves to 12-8 overall and 6-3 in Conference Carolinas, while Mount Olive drops to 4-16 overall and 3-7 in league play.
Five Crusaders hit .300 or better as the Abbey registered a team attack of .312 (46 kills, 12 errors on 109 total attacks). Senior Hannah Schellenberg led all players with 14 kills as she was the only player to reach double figures. She added four service aces. Caitlin Hankins totaled nine kills as she registered a .438 attack. Aimee Cloninger hit .381 as she smacked down nine kills with just one error on 21 attacks. Coreen Norwood added seven kills on 13 attacks with just two errors (.385). Gabby Martinez handed out 40 assists and added two kills on her only two attacks.
Defensively, libero Sarah Kenney's 13 digs led all players with Schellenberg adding 12. Cloninger added nine.
Hankins registered two block assists with Schellenberg and Emily Rose adding one each.
Belmont Abbey is back in action Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. when it welcomes Lees-McRae to the Wheeler Center.
