The Belmont Abbey women's volleyball team fell in four sets at Erskine tonight as the Crusaders suffered their first conference loss. Erskine won the opening set 25-23 and sets three and four by scores of 25-17 and 25-23 after the Crusaders knotted the match at one with a 27-25 set two victory.
Belmont Abbey is now 9-6 overall and 3-1 in the league while Erskine improves to 7-5 overall and remains perfect in conference play at 5-0.
This was the only meeting between the two teams in the regular season.
Hannah Schellenberg led three Crusaders in double figures with 22 kills. Caitlin Hankins added 17 and Aimee Cloninger added ten. Gabby Martinez handed out 47 assists with Sarah Kenney adding three. Hankins hit .448 for the match.
Belmont Abbey hit .221 for the match (55 kills, 19 errors on 163 attacks).
Defensively, Kenney's 23 digs led the way, with Schellenberg adding 19. Leah Gunter added ten.
Coreen Norwood registered five total blocks, recording three assisted and two solo.
The Crusaders are back in action Friday night at 7:00 when hosting Barton to kickoff Homecoming 2015. It will be blackout inside the Wheeler Center.
