The Belmont Abbey women's volleyball 2014 season came to a close this evening as the Crusaders were swept at Limestone 3-0 in the quarterfinal round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament. Set scores were 18-25, 19-25 and 17-25. The Saints advance to the semifinals as they improve to 16-15, while the Abbey ends its season with a mark of 14-17.
Belmont Abbey hit .137 as Hannah Schellenberg led the way with seven kills. She finishes the season with 438, the second most in a single season in school history. Dani Fortunato added five while Coreen Norwood, Caitlin Hankins and Kennedy Haupt each totaled four. Gabby Martinez finished with 26 assists. Norwood added two service aces with Haupt and Fortunato recording one each.
Defensively, Tabitha Sims led the way with 11 digs. Schellenberg recorded ten as she finishes the year with 15 double doubles. Martinez chipped in with seven.
The Crusaders return every player next season as Belmont Abbey has no seniors on the roster.
