Women's Volleyball Extends Winning Streak To Four With 3-1 Victory Over Pfeiffer; Schellenberg Ties Career-High With 26 Kills

The Belmont Abbey women's volleyball team closed the fourth set on a 19-1 run-capturing 17 consecutive points during one stretch-to erase a 9-6 deficit and earn a 3-1 victory over the visiting Pfeiffer Falcons this evening inside the Wheeler Center. Set scores were 25-15, 25-17, 23-25 and 25-10.

Belmont Abbey, winners of four straight, improve to 9-12 overall and 7-4 in Conference Carolinas, while the Falcons drop to 0-18 overall and 0-11 in league play.

After Belmont Abbey breezed through the first two sets, the Falcons surged ahead late in the third and held off a late Crusaders rally to extend the match to a fourth set.

Pfeiffer's momentum continued through the fourth set, as the Falcons built a 9-6 lead, but they would only record one more point-at 23-10-as the Crusaders reeled off 17 straight winners and would end the match on a 19-1 run.

Junior outside hitter Hannah Schellenberg led all players as she tied her career-high with 26 kills. She hit .345 for the match as she had just six errors on 58 attacks. Caitlin Hankins added 12 kills as she hit .500. Gabby Martinez handed out 34 assists and posted five service aces as she served during the 17 unanswered point flurry. Julie Newell added four assists.

Defensively, Newell's 18 digs led the way, with Dani Fortunato recording 11 and Martinez totaling ten. Schellenberg added seven and a block assist. Coreen Norwood had the other block assist.
