Women's Volleyball Downed In Home Opener By Southern Wesleyan, 3-0

The Belmont Abbey women's volleyball team opened its home schedule with a 3-0 loss to Southern Wesleyan this evening before 400 inside the Wheeler Center. The Warriors won by scores of 25-21, 25-19 and 25-19 as they improve to 7-3 overall and 1-0 in league play, while the Abbey slips to 1-10 overall and 0-2 in Conference Carolinas.

Belmont Abbey hit .091 as Hannah Schellenberg led the offense with 10 kills. Coreen Norwood added six. Gabby Martinez handed out 12 assists with McKenna Murphy adding 10.

Defensively, Schellenberg and Julie Newell tied for the match high with 12 digs apiece. Tabitha Simms chipped in with seven.

Norwood recorded a strong night at the net, as she registered three block assists and three block solos.

Belmont Abbey will look for its first conference win Saturday afternoon at 1:00 when hosting North Greenville.
