Women's Volleyball Wins 19th-Straight With 3-0 Sweep Of Converse; Clinches Top Seed In Conference Carolinas Tournament

The Belmont Abbey women's volleyball team wrapped up the regular season with its 19th-straight win, posting a 3-0 sweep of the visiting Converse Valkyries to share the Conference Carolinas regular season title. Scores were 25-17, 25-13 and 25-12. The Abbey concludes the regular season with a record of 25-3 overall and 17-1 in Conference Carolinas, while Converse, which is the seventh-seed, is now 7-24 overall and 6-12 in league play.

Belmont Abbey clinched the top seed by a random league selection as determined  by the commissioner. It is the first time the Crusaders will enter the league tournament as the top seed, and will face the eighth-seeded North Greenville Crusaders at the Wheeler Center on Saturday, November 16 at 2:00 p.m.

Tonight, the Abbey had no trouble with the Valkryies, which posted negative attacks in the first two sets and hit a .000 in the third. The Crusaders hit .286 for the match as Hannah Schellenberg led all players with 12 kills. She posted a .417 attack for the match as she had just two errors on 24 attempts. Freshman Claire Lang hit .636 as she knocked down eight kills on 11 attacks with just one error. Setters Gabby Martinez and Abby Stine handed out 16 and 12 assists, respectively, with Stine adding three service aces. Schellenberg and Ana Maria Pagan both had two aces.

Defensively, Pagan's 18 digs led all players, while Hannah Schellenberg totaled 18 and older sister Lydia, who was honored prior to the match on senior night, totaled seven.
