Women's Volleyball Extends Winning Streak To 12 With 3-0 Sweep At Erskine

Belmont Abbey sophomore outside hitter Hannah Schellenberg led the Crusaders with 11 kills and 16 digs as the women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to 12 with a 3-0 sweep at Erskine this evening. Set scores were 25-20, 25-23 and 25-17. The Abbey improves to 18-3 overall and 11-1 in Conference Carolinas, while Erskine drops to 7-13 overall and 6-7 in league play.

After an easy first set victory, the Crusaders had to win the last three points to pull out a 25-23 win. Erskine led 23-22 on a Caitlin Bullock kill, but the Fleet did not score again as the Abbey claimed the last three points of the stanza on kills from Tori Jensen and Caitlin Hankins. An Erskine attack error ended the set and gave the Crusaders a 2-0 lead.

Belmont Abbey never trailed in the third set as the advantage grew to as high as 11-6 before Erskine called a timeout. The Fleet won the next two points and would eventually close the Abbey's lead to 15-13, but the Abbey won the next seven points to pull away with a 22-13 lead and would close the match on a Dani Fortunato kill to seal the 3-0 win.

Schellenberg knocked down 11 kills on 28 attacks and led the Crusaders with 16 digs. Lydia Schellenberg added ten digs. Hankins finished with eight kills and a block assist. Gabby Martinez handed out 18 assists and Abby Stine totaled 12 and eight digs. Ana Maria Pagan finished with 11 digs and a pair of service aces.
