Belmont Abbey sophomore Hannah Schellenberg tied for the match high with 14 kills and the Crusaders held Claflin to a negative hitting attack as the women's volleyball team won its ninth-straight match with a 3-0 sweep this evening in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Set scores were 25-22, 25-23 and 25-18. Belmont Abbey improves to 15-3, while Claflin drops to 11-13.
The Crusaders hit .038 but Schellenberg, the two-time reigning Conference Carolinas Player of the Week, hit .348 as she knocked down 14 kills on 23 attacks with just six errors. Caitlin Hankins hit .800 as she totaled eight kills on ten attacks with one error. Gabby Martinez handed out 22 assists and Abby Stine finished with 18.
Defensively, Schellenberg totaled 13 digs to record her eighth double double of the year. She also had a block solo. Ana Maria Pagan's 20 digs led all players. Hankins totaled a pair of block assists.
Belmont Abbey is back in action Thursday night at 7:00 when it hosts Erskine in a Conference Carolinas matchup.
