Women's Volleyball Sweeps Barton Behind Schellenberg's 21 Kills

Belmont Abbey sophomore outside hitter Hannah Schellenberg knocked down a match-high 21 kills and classmate Caitlin Hankins added ten as the Crusaders women's volleyball team won for the fourth-straight time with a 3-0 sweep at Barton. Set scores were 25-16, 25-23 and 26-24. Belmont Abbey improves to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in Conference Carolinas, while Barton drops to 4-7 overall and 3-2 in league play.

The Crusaders hit .363 for the match as Schellenberg's 21 kills led all players. She hit .381 as her 21 kills came on 42 attacks with just five errors. Hankins hit .533 as she posted ten kills on 15 attacks with two errors. Dani Fortunato added eight kills on 12 attacks with one error (.583) and Tori Jensen posted a .429 attack, knocking down seven kills on 14 attacks with one error.

Setters Abby Stine and Gabby Martinez handed out 21 and 19 assists, respectively.

Defensively, Ana Maria Pagan's 20 digs led all players and Hannah Schellenberg added eight.  At the net, Jensen posted four block assists and Fortunato contributed three.

Belmont Abbey dominated the first set as 17 of the points came from kills, with just two errors on 30 attacks (.500). Jensen closed the set with a kill to give the Crusaders the early edge.

The Crusaders posted 17 kills again in the second set as they hit .324, and the Abbey had to outlast the Bulldogs in the decisive set as it knocked down 19 kills en route to a .304 attack.
