Women's Volleyball Wraps Up FSC/Terrace Hotel Invitational With A Win And Loss

The Belmont Abbey women's volleyball team finished 1-1 on the final day of the Florida Southern/Terrace Hotel Classic on Saturday, as it lost to the host Mocs 3-0 and capped off the day with a 3-1 win over Northwood (MI) after dropping the opening set.

Belmont Abbey will take its 2-2 record into next weekend's Abbey Road Invitational at the Wheeler Center beginning Friday.

Caitlin Hankins hit .471 with eight kills on 17 attacks with no errors and Lydia Schellenberg paced the Crusaders with nine kills, but Florida Southern had two players finish with 12 kills apiece as the Mocs earned a 3-0 win. Set scores were 25-16, 25-22 and 25-15.

Belmont Abbey hit .084 for the match as Schellenberg nearly missed a double double with nine kills and nine digs.  Hankins added eight kills. Defensively, Hannah Schellenberg logged a team-high 16 digs, while freshman Ana Maria Pagan added 13. Abby Stine chipped in with 11 to go along with 11 assists. Gabby Martinez added 14 assists. Hankins added two block assists.

Belmont Abbey overcame a first set loss to win the next three-straight to even its season record to 2-2 with a 3-1 win over Northwood. Set scores were 22-25, 27-25, 25-18 and 25-17.

The Schellenberg sisters paced the Crusaders as each registered double doubles. Senior Lydia totaled 14 kills and 14 digs, while sophomore Hannah added 10 and a career-high 20 digs. Tori Jensen posted five kills.  Abby Stine totaled 18 assists and Gabby Martinez registered 15. Defensively, freshman libero Ana Maria Pagan established a career-high with 22 digs while handing out a pair of assists. Caitlin Hankins had eight block assists and Jensen had seven. Claire Lang added three.
