Belmont Abbey senior outside hitter Lydia Schellenberg led all players with 14 kills and Hannah Schellenberg added 18 digs as the Crusaders women's volleyball team opened the 2013 season with a 3-0 win over Kentucky State this afternoon in Lakeland, Florida. Set scores were 25-16, 25-7 and 25-18. It was the season opener for both teams.
Lydia Schellenberg recorded a .345 attack to pace an offense that recorded 34 kills. Hannah Schellenberg added seven and a match-high 18 digs. Freshmen setters Abby Stine and Gabby Martinez posted 15 and nine assists, respectively.
Defensively, the Crusaders limited Kentucky State to a -.028 attack as the Abbey logged ten total blocks, all but two assisted, as Caitlin Hankins finished with one block solo and three block assists. Lydia Schellenberg had three block assists while Claire Lang totaled a pair.
Ana Maria Pagan recorded 12 digs and also finished with a service ace.
