MURFREESBORO, N.C. - Sydney Pluhacek scored the what turned out to be the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win at Chowan for the Belmont Abbey women's soccer team this afternoon. The victory puts The Abbey at 6-3 on the year, with a 4-1 Conference Carolinas record. The Hawks are now 0-6-2 overall, with a 0-3-2 conference mark.
How it Happened
- Goose Andrews scored the first goal of the contest in the 22nd minute, her sixth score of the season
- Less than two minutes later, Pluhacek put the Crusaders in front 2-0 off a free kick
- Chowan scored late in the second half, but The Abbey defense held the Hawks off long enough to secure the 2-1 victory
- As a unit, Belmont Abbey outshot Chowan 17-7. The Crusaders also took 14 corner kicks, to just five for the Hawks
