HICKORY, NC - The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season at Lenoir-Rhyne this evening. The Crusaders move to 2-1-1 on the season while Lenoir-Rhyne improves to 3-1-1.
It only took 5:08 for Crusader midfielder Tallee Zamiela to score on a lob pass from sophomore Brooke Hedgspeth. The Abbey continued to shoot the ball and retained their 1-0 lead through the first half.
The Bears tied the game in the 50th minute. The Abbey continued to hang tough, but gave up a goal in the 84th minute.
On the day, Belmont Abbey took eight shots. Goalie Kaitlyn Paul recorded six saves. Head Coach Mike Lynch offered the following: "With the score 1-0 in our favor at half, we knew we would need to improve upon our first half to keep a very good LR team away from our goal. Ironically, we actually did improve with our adjustments but a couple breakdowns cost us the result. I am pleased with our attitude and development, especially with Conference rival Limestone on Saturday."
The Abbey will be back in action Saturday when it visits Limestone at 7:30 p.m.
