HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Belmont Abbey wrestling team earned a well-deserved win defeating Coker in a close match Wednesday. The two teams each won five matchups but the Crusaders pulled away victorious by the score of 22-18. Belmont Abbey improves to 4-4 on the season and 1-1 in the ECAC. Coker moves to 1-2 on the year.
The Match started at the 149 weight class which saw the Abbey's Santonio Thompson defeated Bret Shurina by major decision 18-10 to put the Crusaders ahead. Greg Hilliard added another Abbey win in the 157 weight class with a pin, his sixth of the season.
Luke Glunt recorded his third pin of the season in the 184 weight class to put the Crusaders back up by seven.
Coker won the next two matchups pulling within a point of the Crusaders. Jonathan Charpenter sealed the deal for the Abbey with a 9-5 decision in the 141 weight class. His fourth win of the season gave the Crusaders their fourth team victory of the season.
