BELMONT, NC - The Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team lost a 17-5 decision this afternoon to Florida Tech at Alumni Field. The loss puts the Abbey at 3-1 on the season, while Florida Tech improved to 1-1.
Belmont Abbey struck first, as Marin Felsoci scored just 2:36 into the contest. Florida Tech then tied it up at 1. From there the Abbey scored four straight goals. Katelin Glass scored three goals in a span of 19 minutes, while defender Kassie Easter added another. This helped the Abbey jump out to a 5-1 lead. After that, the Panthers scored six goals to own a 6-5 lead going into halftime.
In the second half, the Crusaders continued to win a lot of draw controls. They also played some stingy defense, causing a handful of Panther turnovers. Belmont Abbey struggled to put goals in the net, however, and Florida Tech sealed the game with a 17-5 victory.
On the day, Glass led the Crusader offense with three goals on three shots on goal. Caitlin Cook, Jordan Hofmeister, and Rebecca Stromberg each tallied an assist in the game. Stromberg and defender Amber Eakins each picked up two ground balls.
Belmont Abbey will be back in action on March 1, when it hosts Limestone in its annual Raise the Red game. The game will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Alumni Field.
