MONROE, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey women's golf team sits in sixth place after the first round of competition at the Wingate Challenge. Out of the 11 teams, the Crusaders are sixth with a 325, 17 strokes behind the leader Lincoln Memorial.
Haley Helton leads the Crusades carding a 77 in the first round placing herself tied for seventh in the field. Kaitlyn Gribbon's 80 landed her tied for 21st after the first day and Jenna Nagy's 86 gave her a share of 46th place. Jamie Treece shot an 88 on the first day, she sits in 50th.
Helton is just five strokes behind the leader, Dominika Czudkova, who carded a 72 in the first round.
Round two will begin tomorrow, concluding the Wingate Challenge.
