SPARTANBURG, SC—The Belmont Abbey Women's Golf team shot a final round 368 to finish in 12th place at the 2016 Converse Spring Invitational by Founders FCU, which was contested at the Par 72 5,881 yard Carolina Country Club. The event was hosted by Converse College.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Gribbon led the Crusaders in round two with an 86. Gribbon finished the 36-hole event with a 171 total, which tied her for 33rd.
Only eight of the 88 players in the field broke 80 in round two as the players battled tough course conditions after 2 inches of rain fell on the golf course overnight.
Krysta Schais from Erskine won the individual crown with rounds of 76 and 78 with a 36-hole total of 154.
Anderson University recorded a second round score of 321, to edge Queens by one shot, and win the team title. Wingate finished three back, at 643 to finish third. The Bulldogs recorded the lowest round of the tournament, carding a final round score of 314.
The Belmont Abbey Women's Golf Team will return to action on March 4-5 when they travel to Myrtle Beach, SC to compete at the Battle at the Beach, hosted by Tiffin University. The event will take place at Myrtlewood Golf Club.
