Women's Golf Posts Best Score Since 2011 In Opening Round Of Etowah Intercollegiate

The Belmont Abbey women's golf team fired an opening round 328-the team's best score in nearly four years-to sit alone in fifth out of six teams at the season opening Etowah Intercollegiate, which is hosted by Lincoln Memorial in Etowah, North Carolina. 

Belmont Abbey's lineup includes three freshmen playing their first collegiate rounds, with a sophomore and junior included.

Freshman Haley Helton led the way with a seven over 79 to sit in a tie for twelfth. Her round included two birdies on the back nine to finish two over on that side. Classmate Kaitllyn Gribbon is three shots back as she stands in a tie for fifteenth. She carded two birdies, one on each side. She played the front three over par.

Gribbon is joined by sophomore Mia Baringer, who also carded an 82. She played both sides five over par.

Freshman Lauren Brychell is tied for twentieth with an opening round 85 and Sarah King is alone in twenty seventh with an opening 91.

The final round gets underway tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m.
