GREENWOOD, Ind. -- Belmont Abbey catcher Claire Doyle has been named to the Google Cloud/CoSIDA Academic All-District III team, CoSIDA announced today. Doyle now advances to the national ballot with a chance at being named Academic All-America.
A junior from Jacksonville, Fla., Doyle holds a 3.94 grade-point average in the double major of psychology and educational studies. She was a first-team All-Conference Carolinas selection, finishing fourth in the league in batting with a .403 average. She also led the team in hits (56) and doubles (10), while her 25 RBIs ranked fourth on the team.
Defensively, Doyle had just two errors in 208 chances (.976 fielding) and threw out 10 of 43 runners trying to steal.
Belmont Abbey improved from 19 wins last year to a 21-22 mark this season. The Crusaders also won a conference tournament game for the second straight year.
