AIKEN. S.C. - Annabeth Watkins threw a complete game, surrendering just one run, but the Crusaders lost at USC Aiken by scores of 8-5 and 1-0 this afternoon. The Abbey now stands at 3-3 on the year, while the Pacers improve to 4-4.
In Game 1, Aiken got on the board early, but the Crusaders responded in the bottom of the first, when Kaitlin Moore singled to right center, bringing Chace Helms home and tying the game at one. Belmont Abbey held the Pacers scoreless over the next four innings, including a 3-up, 3-down in the fifth. USC Aiken scored in the sixth. The Abbey went a on run of its own in the seventh, capped by a 2-RBI double by Brooke Pegram.
At the end, however, Aiken took the contest 8-5. Brianna Embler went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
