Softball Splits with Mount Olive, 2-4 and 6-5

MOUNT OLIVE, NC – The Belmont Abbey softball program splits a twin bill with Mount Olive, 2-4 and 6-5. The split moves the Crusaders to 9-19 overall and 3-5 in conference play and the Trojan's move to 14-14 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

In the first game the Crusaders dropped 2-4 in extra innings. The Crusaders fought back against the Trojans at the Top of the 3rd with two outs Selena Thompson would double to center field. Sloane McPeak would reel her in with a single down the middle. The run would tie the game up 1-1.

Belmont Abbey would score again in the top of the 6th as Jena Reisenauer homered to left center. This would be the last run for the Crusaders on the game as Mount Olive came back in the bottom of the 6th as Savannah Becker would score off of a single to center field from Kayla Allen.

The Crusaders would eventually fall as Becker homered to left center bringing Brooke Kamphuis and herself around.

In game two the Crusaders would claim the win 6-5 over the Trojans.

The Crusaders started off strong from Top of the 1st as Reisenauer homered to left center bringing Mackenzie Dziendziel in from 2nd base.

The Trojans struck back as they scored three runs in the bottom of the 3rd and then two more in the bottom of the 4th bringing the score to 2-5.

Crusaders would respond with three runs of their own in the top of the 5th as Dani Marietta homered to right center bringing Alexis Pereiro and McPeak in tying the score 5-5.

Running off of an exciting 5th inning the Crusaders team would bring Dziendziel around the bases as Reisenauer singled down the right field line. The run would give the Crusaders all they would need to confirm their 6-5 victory.

The Crusaders will be back in action on Wednesday March 23 as they travel to North Greenville for another twin bill starting at 2:00 PM.
