Crusaders Set for 2017 Conference Carolinas Championship

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The fall championship season kicks off tomorrow as Belmont Abbey hosts the 2017 Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships for the sixth straight year. The event, slated for Frank Liske Park in Concord, N.C., features a 6k race for the women at 3 p.m., followed by the 8k men's race at 4 p.m.

Eight men's teams and ten women's teams will compete in the championship races. Mount Olive teams will headline the action on both the men's and women's side as they look to defend their respective conference titles. The Trojan men currently sit sixth in the national rankings while the women are ranked at No. 21.

The Crusaders were picked to finish seventh in the preseason poll, but have had several strong finishes this year. Junior Thomas Eichorn has led The Abbey in several races, while freshman Sam Lynch was the Conference Carolinas' Runner of the Week for the opening weekend. One of the more outstanding finishes this year was ninth place at the National Catholic Invitational.

The women's team has been anchored by Hannah Zenker and Annie Hetzel all year with both finishing in the top 10 several times. They were all-conference selections a year ago and were the impetus for a fourth-place listing in the preseason coaches poll.

Result will be available at www.abbeyathletics.com following the races.
