Crusader Men Earn 8th-Place Finish at Conference Championships

CONCORD, NC - Belmont Abbey's men's cross country squad ran to an 8th-plcae finish at the Conference Carolinas Championship this afternoon at Frank Liske Park in Concord, NC.

In a race of 76 runners, sophomore Thomas Eichorn finished 30th overall with a time of 29:37.25.  Junior Patrick Lester was only five spots behind, as he finished with a 29:48.90 run.  Another five spots behind Lester was sophomore Darvy Soignet, who completed the race in 30:15.54.

Up next for the Crusaders was junior Dominic Forget, who clocked a 31:06.12 run.  Sophomore Nicholas Snell (32:02.51) and freshman Justin Haggerty (32.37.21) rounded out the field.

Head Coach Nick Radkewich offered the following comments: "The Conference Carolinas Championship is becoming more competitive every year, challenging our program to improve and keep pace with regionally and nationally ranked programs.  Both teams are young with no seniors and only one junior.  The efforts put in today will start the building process for future years and improved team performances.  Captain and Co-Captain Patrick Lester and Thomas Eichorn led the Crusaders with their performances.  Patrick started with the lead group and fought hard showing great form that will pay off in his 800m races during indoor track.  Thomas started in a pack with teammates Nick Snell, Justin Haggerty, and Trey Heavener, eventually working his way through the field to be the men's top finisher."

The team will next run in the Southeast Regional in Montevallo, AL.
