HIGH POINT, N.C. –- Belmont Abbey has been picked third in the 2019 Conference Carolinas Men's Volleyball preseason poll, the league office announced today. The Crusaders received 63 points in voting conducted among the conference's nine head coaches.

Defending co-champion Barton enters the season as the favorite to win the Conference Carolinas Men's Volleyball Championship, gaining 80 points off eight first-place votes, while Mount Olive earned the other top tally and 66 points.

King, which also claimed a share of the 2018 regular-season championship, was just one point behind in fourth, followed by Limestone (52) and North Greenville (47). Emmanuel and Erskine tied for seventh with 34 points, while Lees-McRae College rounded out the poll with 30 points.

Belmont Abbey went 13-16 overall in 2018 and 8-8 in league play a year ago, earning a home game in the conference tournament. The Crusaders return one of the best offensive players in the nation in Liam Maxwell, who earned honorable mention All-America and first-team All-Conference Carolinas honors as a sophomore. He enters 2019 as a Karch Kiraly watch list selection.

Also back for The Abbey are a pair of Ryan Millar watch list picks in middle blockers Brian Long and William Morris.
