Crusaders Post Top Times at USC Open

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Belmont Abbey wrapped up the 2018 outdoor track & field regular season Saturday with several strong performances at the USC Open, a competition featuring a mix of Division I and Division II athletes from the Carolinas.

Rory Witkowski and Edward Genoa finished second and third, respectively, in the 3000 Steeplechase with times of 11:16.82 and 11:28.11. Matthew Difrancesca posted his best time of the year in the 200 (22.00) to finish 19th, while Nick Snell was 16th in the 1500m (4:20.34). Samuel Lynch was 16th in the 3000m (9:35.42) Michael Koceja was 15th in the 400 Hurdles (56.08).

Patrick Lester qualified for the Conference Carolinas Championship in the 800, running a time of 2:00.41. 

As a team, Belmont Abbey was 10th in the 4x100 relay.

Dominic Paulter posted a new season best in the long jump, finishing seventh with a distance of 6.51m. He also earned eighth place in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.70m. Julian Smallwood was fourth in the shotput.

Belmont Abbey competes at the 2018 Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track and Field Championships next weekend at Southern Wesleyan.
