CHARLOTTE, NC - The Belmont Abbey Track and Field teams competed in their first race of the 2017 outdoor season.
Julian Smallwood, competing in the first outdoor meet of his career, finished in sixth place overall in the shot, out of 50 competitors, put with a 15.39m throw. He also recorded a 33.48m throw in the discus.
Junior Michael Koceja ran a 58.24-second 400m hurdle race.
On the women's side, senior Liz Thierfelder came in second place in her heat, and 15th overall out of 86 runners, in the 400m, which she ran in 57.1 seconds.
Sophomore Desenia Sanchez competed in the discus, where she threw for 26 meters.
Belmont Abbey will be back for more action on Saturday, March 25 when it competes in the Wingate Invitational.
