Men's Indoor Track & Field Set Four School Marks At Gamecock Open

The Belmont Abbey Track Team set 3 school marks at the USC Gamecock Open held Wednesday evening at the Fieldhouse on the Columbia Campus.

The best performer of the evening was Dustin Stewart who set two of the marks.  He ran the 55m Hurdles in a time 9.05, as well Shot Putting 9.51m (31' 8.5").

Steph-Yves Louis was the record setter in the 55m Dash with a time of 6.93, with Teammates Joe Thierfelder (6.94), and Darius Gardner (6.96) in close pursuit.  Jean Luc Rolland held the previous mark of 7.23 which he set 2 years ago at this meet.

Thierfelder was the top placer for the team with a 3rd in the High Jump (6' 0").

Two of the three marks were the first time the events were contested indoor by a member of the program, as this is just the 2nd full season of Indoor Track for the BAC Program, also, the USC Fieldhouse is not the conventional 200m oval.  The Track is 250m with 4 straightaways and 4 turns, thus the team did not bring any of the distance program, and the 55m Dash and Hurdles are events that are not held often, as the standard distance is 60m for the sprint events.

Coach Mike De Witt had these comments on the USC Meet:  "This meet was a perfect opportunity for the men to compete with many athletes in their first meet of the season.  The group also had a lot of fun competition in the 55m Dash to see who is the faster dash man on the team.  There were 17 schools participating it is was a fun track meet to be a part of."
