Crusaders Earn 13-10 Victory At Rollins

The Belmont Abbey Men's Lacrosse Team earned a 13-10 victory at Rollins today.  The win moves the Abbey to 5-1 on the year while Rollins drops to 4-2.

Just three and a half minutes into the game, Adam Wiedemann scored the first goal of the game off a pass from Jacob Clark.  Just 2:13 later, Wiedemann set up Jason Hollister with a goal for an early 2-0 Crusader lead.  Later in the quarter, Connor Sellars found the back of the net to up the lead to 3-0.  Then with three seconds left in the opening quarter, Sellars found Wiedemann for a goal and a 4-1 lead going into the second.

Rollins scored two goals early in the second quarter, but the Abbey responded with goals by Callum Tanner and MJ Miller less than a minute apart to give the Crusaders a 6-3 advantage.  The Crusaders' defense held the Tars to just one goal for the rest of the period.  Brendan McGovern score for the Abbey with a 1:22 to go in the half and the Abbey owned a 7-4 at halftime.

In the third, the Abbey scored early and often.  Kyle McGinley put a ball in the net on a man-up opportunity just 24 seconds into the quarter, and Miller scored off a pass from Tanner just 44 seconds later.  With 11:10 left in the period, Tanner scored another goal for the Crusaders, their third goal in 3:50, to make it a 10-5 Abbey lead.  A goal by Sellars with 8:37 to go made it an 11-5 game.  The Abbey would only surrender one more goal in the last minute of the period to take an 11-6 lead into the final quarter.

In the fourth, Wiedemann and Sellars each scored a goal off one another and at the end, the Crusaders earned a 13-10 victory.

On the day, Wiedemann led the Abbey's offense with three goals and three assists.  Sellars contributed with three goals and two assists, while Tanner scored two and handed out two assists.  Anthony Cesario paced the defense with three caused turnovers, while Cody Agrella picked up five ground balls.  Goalie Harley Whitham earned seven saves.

The Crusaders will be back for more action on Saturday with a trip to Shorter University at 1:00PM.
