Men's Lacrosse Ends Season With 18-4 Loss To #3 Limestone In Conference Carolinas Semifinal

The 2014 Belmont Abbey men's lacrosse season came to an end this afternoon as the top-seeded and nationally third-ranked Limestone Saints claimed an 18-4 win this afternoon in the semifinal round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament. Limestone will host the Pfeiffer/Mount Olive winner Saturday as it improves to 14-1, while the Abbey ends its season with a mark of 6-10.

Four different Crusaders scored one goal, as Ryan Callahan, Joey McGinley, Riley Quinlan and Scotty Steele all found the back of the net.

Limestone led 4-1 after one and 12-2 at the half. McGinley's goal with 38 seconds left in the second half was a man up score, his team-leading 11th of the year.

Both teams posted a matching scoreline in the third and fourth quarters, with Limestone scoring three in each period to the Abbey's one. Steele, a senior, scored the 72nd and final goal of his career with 6:22 left in the game.

Along with Steele, it was the final game for Brett Lawless, Jon Wolcott, Brendan Rogers, Corey Cooke and Kevin Costa.

Limestone outshot the Abbey 45-26 and won 19 of 25 faceoffs. Lawless stopped eight shots in the cage. Steele, Wolcott and Devin Cruz all had three caused turnovers.
