Crusaders, Stafford Third after Day One of The Trojan

GOLDSBORO, N.C. -- Junior Nick Stafford fired the best round of the day -- a five-under par 67 -- in the afternoon, helping the Belmont Abbey "A" team to a third-place standing after 36 holes at The Trojan, being played at the Walnut Creek Country Club.

Stafford is tied for third individually at one-under 143 (76-67), while the Crusaders are third as a team with a score of 596 (302-294). Jacob Scruggs is tied for ninth at 147 (75-72), while Levi Kettelhut stands tied for 24th with rounds of 71 and 81 (152). Maurizio DeBono shot 80-78=158 to stand tied for 47th, while John Molyneaux is one stroke back (82-77=159) in a tie for 49th.

A second team is ninth with a score of 623 (315-308). Michael Mead is in a tie for 11th at 148 (73-75), while Austin Gliha is tied for 40th with a pair of 78s (156). Colin Reno shot 159 (83-76) for a tie for 49th, while Chris Kopack shot 160 (81-79/t-52nd). Brody Davis rounded out that team with rounds of 83 and 84 (167/63rd).

Three other Crusaders played as individuals. Philip Telsrow carded two 81s for a tie for 56h; Landon Isaacs shot 166 (81-85/t61st) and Olivier Arsenault is tied for 70th at 188 (92-96).

Host Mount Olive has the team lead with a 582 (290-292), while Brevard individual Craig Stephen paces the field with a three-under 141 (73-68).

The final round will be played Tuesday.
