CARROLLTON, GA. -- Freshman Jacob Scruggs shot his third sub-par round and Belmont Abbey carded a three-under par 285 as a group as the Crusaders captured both the team and individual titles Tuesday at the University of West Georgia Matt Dyas Invitational.

Scruggs finished the tournament with a score of four-under 212 (71-70-71) to take medalist honors, the first of his career. Nick Stafford tied for second, three strokes back at 215 (72-71-72), while Levi Kettelhut tied for sixth at 218 (+2/71-76-71). John Molyneaux placed 26th by himself with a score of 224 (76-77-71), while Parker See tied for 27th at 225 (72-77-76).

As team, Belmont Abbey recorded an 865 (286-294-285), three shots ahead of second-place Newberry.

This marks the second straight fall season that the Crusaders have won a tournament as a team. A year ago, they captured the Belmont Abbey Invitational.

The event wrapped up the early portion of the 2016-17 schedule.
