Stafford Stands Second at Barton Invitational

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- Junior Nick Stafford fired a three-under par 69 to stand tied for second after the first round of the Barton Invitational. The event was originally scheduled as the Cutter Creek Invitational but course conditions after Hurricane Matthew forced changes to the location and field.

Belmont Abbey entered two teams in the six-team field with one standing second and the other tied for fifth. One of Barton's teams has the lead at 277 with one of the Crusader groups shooting 296. The second team shot 316.

Joining Stafford on one team were Parker See (t6/72), Levi Kettlehut (t12/76) and John Molyneaux and Michael Mead, who each shot 79 to sit in a tie for 20th.

The second team was led by Maurizio Debono, who is tied for ninth with a 74. Chris Kopack is alone in 23rd with an 80, while Austin Gliha and Brody Davis are tied for 24th at 81.

Justin Plane of Barton holds the individual lead at five-under par 67. The final round is Tuesday
