MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Belmont Abbey junior Nick Stafford opened with a 32 on the front nine then added a 35 on the back for a five-under 67 and a share of the first-round lead at the 2016 Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate.
The Crusaders shot an even-par 288 to sit in third in the team standings. Duke's B-team with a pair of players tied with Stafford is the leader at 13-under 275. North Greenville is the top Division II team, just one stroke in front of The Abbey.
Jacob Scruggs turned in a two-under 70 after posting 33 on the back nine. He is tied with fourth with four other players. Levi Kettelhut carded a 75 for a tie for 33rd, while Parker See is tied for 49th at four-over 76. John Molyneaux rounded out the scoring with a 78 (tied for 64th).
The tournament concludes with the final round on Tuesday.
