Saints Lead After Day One of Golf Championship

GREENSBORO, NC - The Limestone Saints are at the top of both the Men's and Women's Conference Carolinas Golf Championship. Played at Bryan Park in Greensboro, the Saints Men shot a 2-over 290 to lead by two shots over Belmont Abbey.

On the Women's side, four golfers reside in the top 12 for Limestone, with a team score of 311. The first round total bested second place Converse by eight shots, as the Valkyries scored a 319 in round one.

Individually for the men, Griffin Brown leads after round one with a 3-under 69.  The opening round was icing on the cake for Brown, as the New Hampshire native won the Conference Carolinas Male Golfer of the Year. Nick Stafford trails by one shot as he carded a 70 on Sunday. 

Paul Fitzgerald of Erskine and Brady Hollenbacher of Mount Olive brought a 71 to the clubhouse, tying for fourth on the day.

Cabrick Waters rounded out the top five with an even par 72, giving Limestone two scores at the top of the leaderboard.

For the ladies, Krysta Schaus, the reigning Conference Carolinas Female Golfer of the Year, owns a one stroke lead with a day one total of 73. That number leads Julia Kaeding by one shot, after the Mount Olive standout carded a 74.

Sydney Landreth, Taylor McInnis and Samantha Taylor are three shots back, as each shot 76 on the day.  For Landreth and McInnis, their scores place three Saints in the top five going into the middle day of the tourney.

Tomorrow, the women will tee off on the 1st hole of the Champion's course beginning at 8 am, where the men will get started on hole #10 at 8am on Monday.
