SALISBURY, NC - The Belmont Abbey Men's Golf team carded a season-low 288, to finish second place at the 2016 Richard Rendleman Invitational. The tournament is hosted by Catawba College and was being held at the 6,665-yard par 71 Country Club of Salisbury.
Sophomore Nick Stafford tied his career-low round for the second time this spring, with a 4-under-par 67. Stafford's 36-hole total of 139 (-3), was three better then Seth Robertson from North Greenville. Stafford, who was medalist for the tournament, earned his second tournament title of the 2015-16 school year. Stafford also earned medalist honors at the Belmont Abbey Invitational in October.
Sophomore Connor Rinoski carded an 1-over-par 72 in the final round for a total of 147, and tied for 8th in the tournament.
Freshman Maurizio DeBono, who played as an individual, fired a 1-under-par 70, finished tied for 14th place at 149.
Freshman Levi Kettelhut, who also competed as an individual in the event, recorded rounds of 79-71, to finish tied for 17th place.
The Crusaders finished five strokes from tournament champion North Greenville who recorded a 36-hole score of 582. Lincoln Memorial, who was ranked 19th in the nation in Division II in the latest Golfstat poll, finished six shots behind Belmont Abbey in third place. Lenoir-Rhyne was fourth at 596, followed by Pfeiffer in fifth at 600.
The Belmont Abbey Men's Golf Team will return to action on March 13-14 at the J. Ralph Hargett Memorial in Monroe, NC. The event is hosted by Wingate University.
