The Belmont Abbey men's golf team bested four NCAA Division I teams and tied with another to finish tied for 11th among a strong field at the Elon Phoenix Invitational. The two day, 54 hole event was hosted by Elon at the Alamance Country Club in Alamance, North Carolina.
Playing 36 holes yesterday, the Crusaders finished with rounds of 301 and 302 and closed with a 301 this afternoon. The event fielded 16 teams as the Crusaders were just one of two non NCAA Division I teams.
Belmont Abbey sophomore Michael Mead led the way with a tie for 24th place finish. He carded rounds of 75 and 74 yesterday and closed with a strong 71. Classmate Nick Stafford ended up in a tie for 45th with scores of 73, 77 and 76.
Senior Tyler Satorius bookended rounds of 77 around a second round 75 to finish tied for 54th and John Molyneaux carded three straight rounds of 77 to end up tied for 65th. Connor Rinoski finished tied for 75th with scores of 79, 75 and 81.
Belmont Abbey tied Wright State and eclipsed Western Carolina, High Point, Binghamton and Savannah State.
The Crusaders have one more tournament on the fall schedule, the McDonough Cup in Orlando, Florida October 26-27.
