COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Belmont Abbey combined cycling program finished the 2017-18 competition season ranked first in the nation among USA Cycling Division II schools, the organization recently announced. The Crusaders amassed 275 points over four combined disciplines to take the title 275-270 over Mars Hill.
The Crusaders received 89 points in track, 44 in mountain bike, 63 in cyclocross and 79 in road.
"The thing I'm most proud of is our all-hands-on-deck mentality," Head Coach Derek Dalzell said. "I believe that is on full display with our #1 ranking for the entire 2017-2018 year. We have strong individuals, but what's critical to any team's success is their willingness to work for each other for the betterment of the program. Going forward this is something that we will constantly strive for -- excellence in teamwork and therefore excellence in results. All Hands On Deck!"
