GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Belmont Abbey men's cycling team completed its first road racing weekend of the season Sunday, taking several top places in various categories.
On Saturday, Charles Daniel took the overall win in the Men's Category 3 race. He was part of a five-man breakaway for most of the race, but pulled away in the end. In the Men's pro race, Trey Hedgecock took third overall, while Collin Tellechea placed 15th.
Daniel placed second overall in the Sunday Men's Category 3 race.
"It was great to get the team out and racing as we build into our road season," Head Coach Derek Dalzell. "There are plenty of positive takeaways from this event -- a category 3 win and our men competing and beating some of the top professionals around the U.S. Most importantly for our continued growth, every rider is taking away something they learned from the weekend as we focus on continually building into nationals the first week of May."
