BOONE, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey competed in its first Atlantic Coast Cycling Conference Championship this weekend with a pair of riders earning league titles.
Luke Richards finished second overall in the road race to take top honors in the C Criterium, while also winning the season-long competition. Trey Hedgecock earned a second-place finish in the A Criterium behing a non-conference rider to win the league as well.
"We had a great conference championship weekend," Head Coach Kyle Knott said. "I am very pleased with the teamwork displayed by riders to set their teammates up into positions to secure the league titles in both the A and C Criterium.
Luke won the C criterium with a huge last-lap effort by Curtis Hoyt to put him in a position to sprint. Trey Hedgecock secured the Conference Championship by finishing 2nd in the A race and was the first conference rider with the help of teammate Keith Mullaly. We will now look forward to prepping for nationals in hopes of top results there."
The USA Cycling National Collegiate Championships take place April 26-30 in Mesa, Colo.
