BELMONT, N.C. -- Sophomore DeQuan Abrom tallied 18 points and grabbed six rebounds, but a hot shooting Barton team pulled away for a 94-76 victory over Belmont Abbey Wednesday night at the Wheeler Center. Jacob Wilson and Deion Lane also reached double figures with 16 and 11 points, respectively, with Lane adding eight rebounds.
Barton (14-11, 10-5), which placed five players in double figures, were led by Bobby Stenborg with 21 points. The Bulldogs shot over 50 percent in each half (57.1/58.6) to finish the night at 57.8 percent. The Crusaders connected on just 43.5 percent in the contest.
Belmont Abbey (10-14, 5-9) led by one, 15-14, at the 13:39 mark, but Barton scored nine straight points and never trailed again. The Crusaders cut the deficit to two, 40-38 with 2:42 left, on the second of back-to-back three-pointers by Abrom, but Barton ended the period on a 9-2 surge to lead 49-40 at the break.
The Abbey started the second half with the first four points, but Barton answered with five in a row to send the margin back to double digits.
Belmont Abbey returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Mount Olive at 4 p.m.
